Open Positions
We are looking for a smart, hardworking, detail-oriented and analytically driven Business Analyst to join our Chicago-based team. In this role, you will support underwriting, risk management, and operational functions by turning complex data into actionable insights that drive sound business decisions across our mortgage insurance portfolio. Along the way, you will help create next-generation analytics, dashboards, and reports that support the business in communicating housing economics and reinsurance partner financial positions.
Prior mortgage (re)insurance experience is beneficial but not required: we will teach you the key concepts of analyzing and forecasting insurance premium and loss cashflows. Prior Accounting experience is also a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide operational support for business of the company, including reviewing, tracking and maintaining key transaction documentation
- Assist in updating and maintaining client-facing portal with transaction data and documents, including quality control of data display
- Collaborate with risk, accounting, and operational teams on monitoring performance of transactions and reporting to clients by reviewing, analyzing and reporting on transaction performance
- Support underwriting teams with data-driven analysis on presence of enhanced risk parameters in pools of mortgages, assist with underwriting analysis, as well as project management on underwriting processes
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including default rates, cure rates, claim frequency, loss severities, loss ratios and other relevant metrics
- Conduct market and competitive research to benchmark company performance
- Identify process improvement opportunities and support implementation of solutions
- Support the building and maintenance of dashboards for senior leadership and operational teams that visualize complex data to deliver valuable insights that drive business decisions.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Accounting or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience in insurance, mortgage or financial services industry preferred
- Substantial professional experience using MS Excel (filter, sort, summarize, pivot tables, financial functions, visualization methods)
- Experience using MS PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Word
- Experienced developing dashboards and reporting solutions such as PowerBI or Tableau
- Experience with all LLMs including a perspective on the relative strengths/weaknesses of each tool and examples of effective prompt design and utilization
- Able to manipulate large data files in csv format and analyze & process them using at least one other analytical tool (e.j., SQL, Python, R or Tableau)

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000, depending on a combination of factors, including but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.
